On Tuesday, Joel celebrated his 6th birthday. I can hardly believe that he's six already. The year has flown by so quickly. Wasn't he just turning 5 a few weeks ago?
It was a great day at home. Tuesday was the last day of Carnaval, so the kids didn't have school on Monday or Tuesday and we decided to stay home and not get pelted with paint and/or water balloons.
We had pancakes for breakfast and then Joel watched his favourite movie, Cars. Just before lunch, he opened his presents. We got him a scooter, and Kezia was thrilled because now he'll stop riding hers! Joel mentioned a few weeks ago about some food he was missing from Canada, so we bought him three boxes of Kraft Dinner and a large block of cheddar cheese. He was tickled pink with the food. And so guess what we had for lunch?
After, Kezia and Joel had a water balloon fight with some of their MCC friends. That was a hightlight of the day for them. Kezia and Asha decorated Joel's birthday cake. It was a bit hard convincing Asha to put the smarties on the cake and not in her mouth (and it's not like we had boxes and boxes to spare!).
Carl made a feast of a supper; steak over an open grill, mashed potatoes, beans and pop. Then came the cake! Joel tried to maintain his cool, but he was just grinning and grinning. We knew he felt pretty special.
My mom called us and chatted with Joel for a bit. Joel went on and on about Carnaval, and his swimming party that he'll have next week. We also wished her a happy birthday too! Kind of neat that Joel shares his birthday with one of his grandmas.
We lighted up the cake, sang our hearts out, and Joel blew out his candles. Asha was gittery with anticipation about getting cake. It was quite humourous.
After dishes and showers, we curled up with a good book, prayed, and thanked God for a wonderful day. It was a special day to celebrate Joel. Happy Birthday! We love and cherish you very much, Joel. It's exciting to think of all the things you will do and experience this year.
