That's My Kid

I've noticed over the last couple of months that Joel is quite the interesting kid.  He does quirky things that put a smile to my face and warms my heart.   A couple of stories.....

So two weeks ago when we announced supper would be served in 10 minutes, Joel quickly ran to his room and told us that we shouldn't come in, he was preparing a surprise.  Kezia was beckoned a few minutes later to help with what, we had no clue.  Supper was put on the table, we all sat down and then out marched Joel with a crown and a robe on.  He plunked himself down, we all prayed and then Carl and I waited for the explanation because the get-up was pretty hilarious.

Joel told us that in school they had talked about being a kid of a King (they were learning about Solomon as an earthly king, but then moved the discussion to our heavenly King).  His teacher had told them they should wear the crown to the table that said Kid of a King to teach their family about what they had been learning.  Well, he was going to one better; he wore the robe and gave us an in depth lecture on Solomon and who we are as children of God.  *Smile*

Then the next week, I came home from work only to find Joel dressed up as a bear.  He had made the whole costume himself, with a little help with the taped on socks by Kezia.  I asked him where he got such an idea and he said that as he was drawing a mask he thought it would be such a shame not to have the whole costume.

And then just this previous week he was telling me about how a kid in his class hardly ever has enough at lunch. Joel said often he gives this little boy some of his fruit or cookies or something.  Joel went on to say that he thinks the family is a bit poor because, "I'm sure they want to send more for lunch with their son but they just couldn't afford it". Without me even suggesting it, he told me the next time that boy needed something for lunch he'd give him at least part of his sandwich because that's the most important part.

This kid shows me something in his every day living.  Go big or don't do it at all.  Go with all your heart.  Be sold out to what you are passionate about.
