Kezia had a wonderful year at gymnastics. She learned so much from her coach Debbie. It was such a blessing to see her not only learn new skills, but make good friends and learn about herself as well. Kezia really loved Debbie and even though she expected a lot from the girls, she was very affectionate and caring; just what Kezia needed to thrive. She learned how to do a round off back handspring, a front tuck, kip on the bars, an aerial (no handed cartwheel), a cartwheel on the beam, and has almost mastered the back handspring with a tuck. There are probably other skills that she has learned, but those are the ones that I got to see first hand!
She did a number of competitions and did well under the pressure. Her last one was Provincials and she did great. She had set some goals for herself and was able to achieve those, plus walk away with a few top 5 finishes in her events. Kezia often told me right after that the best part of gymnastics is being able to compete and support her team mates. Her club is a great place for her to train, almost like a family. They did a wonderful year end display and BBQ. Kezia and her group did a really neat display and got compliments from all the other parents. And because Kezia's so flexible, she was able to participate in the Flexibility Display, which was really quite beautiful. She'll take a bit of a break in the summer, but still train a few hours a week during the day. Next year she'll increase her hours. Each year we have had a talk about if she would like to continue and what that means for her. But right from the start, she has expressed it's something that she loves and is dedicated to. As she gets older, she may decide to do something else, but for now, she is definitely in her element.
