Happy Mother's Day

Today was Mother's Day back in Canada, but here, we don't celebrate the day until the end of the month. So this post isn't about me or my celebrations, but a wish to our Moms.

We are very grateful for our Moms, who are strong, supportive, and loving women.

Carl's mom is a quiet but steadfast kind of woman. She is a deep thinker and so when she says something, it's to be noted. She raised a whole houseful of boys, which in my books deserves a medal of honor! Ruth is pretty creative in the kitchen and is a good teacher of the culinary arts. I can testify to her good teaching skills when I sit down to one of Carl's good meals. You never want to challenge Mom to a game of boggle or scrabble, because she knows more words than anybody. We admire her leaderships skills as she is the chair of the church board. The kids love it when she reads stories to them, or teaches them another one of the thousand songs she knows from teaching at the preschool.

My mom is a strong go-getter kind of woman. She is determined and when she sets her mind to something, she always accomplishes it. My mom has always had a heart for ministry and people. She is constantly serving in the church and using her gifts, in music, in leadership on the board, or teaching Sunday school. Right now, my mom is raising a houseful of teenage boys and yet, she works full time at a college doing student recruitment and promotions. She is an amazing multi-tasker! My mom is an amazing cook, and I never fail to gain weight when eating her meals! She also is a good listening ear and a source of godly advice. The kids love all the attention she gives them, and she never gets tired of hearing their crazy stories.

We are really blessed to have such great Moms and Grandmas. There are many people who don't have a good relationship with their parents and their in-laws and so we count our blessings. Though we are far away, we feel our Mom's support, their prayers, and their love. The kids have appreciated the skype dates and the care packages, although it won't be anything in comparison when they can get hugs in person!
