What a Feast

We had the pleasure of celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving with another family and two SALTers. It actually was the idea of the SALTers, Adrienne and Kim, who asked us if we were planning a meal, and if they could join us and the Schroeders. I must admit, I had almost forgotten about Canadian Thanksgiving. Oops!

That day, Adrienne and Kim came over and helped me prepare some of the food. Elma was making the pumpkin pies and the salads and we were in charge of the potatoes, the vegetables and the chicken and stuffing. Kim had never made stuffing before, but with a recipe I found, did a marvelous job. Adrienne got so zealous with the potatoes, she filled an enormous pot right full. There was probably enough mashed potatoes for 30 people, and we were only 12.

While we were preparing the food, we all had a very good talk. The gals talked about transition into life in Bolivia and we talked about host families and our jobs and MCC. It was really refreshing to visit with them. We shared about missing our families, and the things that we are thankful for here. It helps to remember those things when you are homesick.

We carried all the food over to Hans and Elma's across the street by 6:30. The meal was absolutely divine and we all ate ourselves right full and then some. We shared good laughs around the table, and I think everyone felt encouraged by our celebration together. It seems no matter how far you are from home, you really aren't that far when surrounded by friends.
